Police seek evidence in probe of human remains

? Investigators have no reason to suspect that more than two bodies were among the human remains found last week in a fire pit in rural Cowley County, police said Tuesday.

It’s possible the pit contained three bodies, police said, but it could be months before the body parts can be identified, said police Lt. Ken Landwehr. Police believe the remains are those of two Wichita brothers, but dental records and DNA samples will be needed to make a positive identification.

Relatives have identified the missing brothers as Oscar Ramirez, 27, and Nicolas Ramirez, 22. They were last seen July 31 at Club Mexico in Wichita.

Police investigating the brothers’ disappearance searched and talked to people at the club, which led them to the remote fire pit in Cowley County, where the remains were discovered. Police have also searched the home of the club owner, Arturo Garcia, whom police are holding along with three other suspects in the brothers’ death. No charges have been filed.

Authorities are still looking into the disappearance of an unidentified 30-year-old man from Wichita, also linked to Club Mexico. But Landwehr said it was uncertain whether he was a victim of foul play or was simply “staying away.”

Meanwhile, investigators are asking the public’s help in finding a floor freezer and refrigerator door that may be linked to the case.

Police said the items were missing from Garcia’s home. They also are seeking a late-model red pickup truck, possibly a Ford or Chevrolet.

The Ramirez brothers were likely killed on the day they disappeared, Landwehr said.
