Commandments

To the editor:

I applaud Myriam Marquez’s conclusion in the editorial column, “Judge promotes God’s laws” (Journal-World, Aug. 26). It reads, “To acknowledge God, we don’t need to put commandments in a government building. We need to put those commandments in our hearts. No law and certainly no judge can do that for us.”

In presenting her argument, however, she falsely asserts that “mandatory church attendance on Sunday” is a commandment. Obviously, if we are going to put God’s commandments in our hearts, we will need to read them first. If we cannot read them in our government buildings, we will need to read them somewhere else. This is a need Marquez overlooked.
