Juveniles arrested in connection with school break-ins
Three teen-age boys have been arrested in connection with last weekend’s break-ins at South Junior High and Prairie Park Elementary School, Lawrence school officials announced Thursday.
The three youths, who were arrested Wednesday, have not been connected to a similar break-in at East Heights Elementary School, according to school district officials. Two of the boys are 14 years old and one is 15.
Two boys are being held at the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center and the other one has been released to his parents’ custody.
The arrests were the result of multiple “Crime Stoppers” calls, according to school officials.
At Prairie Park School, 2711 Kensington Rd., school employees discovered that a library window was broken, computer equipment was damaged and and a portable stereo was stolen.
At South, 2734 Louisiana St., a portable stereo was stolen, and a window, computers, a television and a door were all damaged.
