Not a traitor

To the editor:

This letter is in response to Mr. Morris’ “Liberal traitors” letter (Public Forum, Oct. 21).

First of all, I am far from being a liberal, and I have serious questions regarding our role in Iraq. Mr. Morris, like other Americans, I fear, is misinformed on the role of Iraq in 9-11. I saw one poll taken that reports that 70 percent of those interviewed thought the terrorists aboard the aircraft were from Iraq. In truth, most of them were Saudi citizens, supposedly our allies.

There is no comparison between the Iraq war and World War II as Mr. Morris contends. Our government does not always make the best decisions involving military actions. Vietnam is a prime example.

The thought of any relationship between Saddam Hussein and bin Laden is nonsense. Bin Laden hated Saddam because he abused and murdered thousands of Shiite Muslims. I believe our troops are increasingly put in jeopardy by our presence in Iraq, being attacked many times a day. The fanatical Muslims are using our prolonged stay as a great propaganda weapon in recruiting terrorists to enter Iraq and attack Americans. I’m sorry, Mr. Morris, but I am not supporting the troops by encouraging their stay.

Craig Tucker,
