Tarnished image
To the editor:
Once upon a time, I believed the well-polished Lawrence reputation of being a safe, sleepy little college town. But then I actually spent time in Lawrence and it became quite obvious that this place has some serious problems for a town of its size. If you disagree all you have to do is walk downtown and bear witness to the endless supply of drifters aggressively seeking money or just read the paper headlining the latest violent crime. Eleven people injured in a shooting incident across the street from a police station in downtown Lawrence. Shocking? Absolutely. Surprising? Not really, this town needs a lot of work.
