Showers, warmer temperatures arriving
If you recently bought a set of rain tires, you’ll get some use out of them during the evening rush hour — especially if you’re driving east.
“Starting around 5 o’clock, we’ll see some showers developing in the area,” said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist. “Those will push on toward the east and intensify. . . . It looks like it could be enough to give us a wet commute home.”
Sayers said there is a 50 percent chance of light showers for the Lawrence area. The most he expects is about one-tenth of an inch.
“I expect some drips around our region, but it will be heavier and more widespread off to our east,” he said.
The high Thursday will be 64.
“Overnight, the rain will push off toward the east as the clouds begin to clear out and we drop down to 41,” he said.
For Friday, the day will begin with winds out off the north, switch to southerly winds by the afternoon. Friday’s high will be 67, with clear skies expected overnight.
Saturday’s morning low will drop to 42.
“This weekend is looking perfect,” he said.
By the 1 p.m. kickoff for the Kansas University vs. Baylor football game, the temperature will be in the mid 70s, he said. Skies will be mostly sunny, with the temperature reaching a high of 80 by the end of the game.
“It may be a little too warm for football, but not for tailgating,” he said.
Sunday will be warmer yet, with sunny skies and a high of 82, he said.
