Trial postponed for Dole protester

A trial for a man charged with battering a police officer during a July 21 protest outside a Dole Institute of Politics dedication event has been postponed.

The trial for Leo C. Jalipa, 22, Columbia, Mo., was scheduled to begin Tuesday, and late last week his attorney told a judge he was ready for the case to go to trial. However, the next day the case was postponed until Dec. 15.

Jalipa’s attorney, Hudson Luce, wouldn’t elaborate on the reason for the delay. Prosecutor Shelley Diehl couldn’t be reached for comment, and the case file was unavailable early this week.
