Cause for pride

To the editor:

I recently became a volunteer for Watkins Community Museum of History and have become quite upset over the negative remarks and rumors that are floating around the community regarding the changes that are being made. Remember, simply because something is printed or heard through the grapevine does not make the words a fact. Ms. Rebecca Phipps, director, should be commended for the positive changes that have occurred since she took over the helm.

Yes, there is a new look and a new attitude at the museum. I personally invite everyone in the community to come browse through the new Vietnam exhibit, the organized administrative offices (which also showcase the beautiful handiwork of the original builders), visit the newly opened gift shop, and then catch the vision for Douglas County in the 21st Century. Don’t forget to bring your children to one of the museum’s youth programs or attend one of the planned programs honoring the Vietnam veterans. Rebecca and the staff have developed a five-year exhibit schedule, so keep coming back to see the changing exhibits.

Let’s please stop the negativity and help your community museum be something we can all feel proud of.

Thelma Taylor,

Lawrence
