Street choices

To the editor:

Who makes the decisions in Lawrence as to what streets get new curbs, gutters and resurfacing?

The east end of 23rd Street resurfacing stopped at Harper Street, a quarter mile short of where it still needs resurfacing.

The 31st Street jigsaw puzzle has made a mess at the new Home Depot at 31st and Iowa streets and nothing was done for the rest of 31st to the east down to Haskell Avenue.

North Third Street’s islands were removed and it was resurfaced, but nothing has been done in the residential areas in north and east Lawrence. They say the huge bump at the stop light on the north end of the Massachusetts Street bridge can’t be fixed. Why not?

Clinton Parkway got a partial overhaul. West Sixth Street has seen a lot of rebuilding, and there has been a lot of work on residential streets in the “big money” areas on the west side of town.

It appears that somebody is trying to impress the “right” people in town.

Does anybody have an explanation for this poor treatment of ALL taxpayers?
