Assault, battery alleged

A 20-year-old man sent Lawrence Police on a chase Friday afternoon after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a handgun and fled with their 2-month-old son.

Norman Alan Harrison got into a dispute with his girlfriend about their child and money about 1 p.m. at the woman’s parents’ home in the 3900 block of Overland Drive, according to police reports. Harrison physically assaulted the baby’s mother, pointed a handgun at her, then left with the baby, witnesses told police.

Harrison was found and arrested about 45 minutes later while driving west on Sixth Street near Frontier Road, Sgt. Dave Hubbel said. The baby was found at another family member’s house.

Harrison was charged with battery and aggravated assault Friday afternoon and booked into the Douglas County Jail.
