Flu shots available on walk-in basis

It is not too late to get a flu shot and the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department is making them even more accessible.

Starting today, immunizations will be available on a walk-in basis during regular hours at the Health Department, 200 Maine.

Those hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today; 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Additionally, flu shots are available at regularly scheduled Health Screening Clinics for people over 60 in Lawrence, Lecompton and Eudora. The charge for the shots is $15. For more information about flu immunizations, call the health department at 843-0721.

KU forum examines merits of grad school

The factors to consider when considering whether to attend graduate school will be the subject of a forum today at Kansas University.

“Grad School: To Go or Not To Go,” will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pine Room of the Kansas Union. John Augusto, assistant dean of the graduate school, will be the speaker.

Peace caravan plans stop in Lawrence

For the fourth year, Ecumenical Christian Ministries has invited the People-to-People Peace Caravan to Lawrence. The caravan will be in the city Tuesday and Wednesday.

The caravan is organized by the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization/ Pastors for Peace, which has sponsored 40 national caravans since 1988 to Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. This caravan will head to Chiapas, Mexico; Honduras; and Nicaragua to deliver aid and help organize a more just political and economic policy.

Members of the caravan will make a presentation and host an informational table at the ministries’ Veggie Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

KU graduate to lead CEOs of alumni groups

A Kansas University graduate has been selected as vice president and president-elect of the Council of Alumni Association Executives.

Loren R. Taylor, who received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from KU, is president and CEO of the University of Illinois Alumni Assn.

Taylor previously was executive director of the University of South Florida Alumni Assn. and the College Park Alumni Assn. of the University of Maryland.

The council comprises 85 CEOs of alumni associations from around the country.
