Not persuasive

To the editor:

After reading Doug Harvey’s letter (“Minority rules,” Nov. 11) I am convinced that he could use a few tips regarding the gentle art of persuasion. First, use of hyperbole does not convey shades of meaning. Having described our elected leaders as disease-bearing ticks, how can Mr. Harvey escalate his adjectives when those leaders annoy him even more in the future?

More importantly, a writer who wishes to persuade the public should disguise his contempt for them better than Mr. Harvey has done. It is clear that he dislikes the American electorate almost as much as its leaders.
