40-year-old attorney identified as homicide victim

A woman found murdered Friday in her rural Douglas County home has been identified by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Carmin Ross-Murray, 40, had lived at 1860 E. 1150 road since August, a sheriff’s statement released today said. She was an attorney and self-employed mediator.

Officers found her body about 1 p.m. Friday after receiving a request to check on her welfare, the sheriff’s statement said. Sheriff’s investigators remained at the scene overnight Friday and continued to work there today. They were being assisted by the Lawrence Police Department. No information has been released about how the woman was killed.

Numerous leads also were being investigated, including leads outside Douglas County, according to the statement.

Sheriff Rick Trapp will hold a news conference about the case at 3 p.m. today in the Douglas County Judicial & Law Enforcement Center.
