Students evacuated after bomb scare

Students at Basehor-Linwood High School were evacuated to the football field at about 12:40 p.m. because of a bomb threat that later turned out to be a false alarm.

Two students at the school handed English teacher Mardy Robinson a note that said that the school would blow up at about 1:30 p.m., school officials said.

The Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Department, the Basehor Police Department, and firefighters showed up to the school before it was determined the threat was a hoax.

“Everyone handled it very calmly. The kids were very well behaved. There were absolutely no problems, no craziness,” said Don Swartz, the school district’s director of business and facilities.

Students returned to class at about 2 p.m. to resume their normal schedule.

The students involved could face expulsion as well as other legal actions, Swartz said.
