Police tracking tire slashing suspects
Hotel's surveillance tape may provide evidence
Police hope a hotel surveillance camera will help them discover who slashed at least two dozen Nebraska football fans’ tires this weekend.
The slashings, discovered Saturday morning in the parking lots of at least six area hotels, caused more than $5,000 in damage. Almost all the vehicles targeted had Nebraska license plates.
As of Monday, the best lead police had in the case was a surveillance tape from one of the hotel parking lots, said Sgt. Mike Pattrick, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department.
“We’re not sure yet … whether or not the tape shows the part of the parking lot in which the damage occurred,” Pattrick said.
Police reports indicate the most extensive damage happened at Quality Inn, 801 Iowa, where 12 people — 11 of them from Nebraska — awoke to find their tires slashed.
Slashings also happened at Holiday Inn Express, 3411 Iowa; Hampton Inn, 2300 W. Sixth St.; Westminster Inn, 2525 W. Sixth St.; Ramada Inn, 2222 W. Sixth St., and the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.
People with information about the crime can call the Crime Stoppers hot line, 843-TIPS (8477). Callers remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
