Trial rescheduled for stalking suspect

A man known for criticizing the Lawrence Police Department won’t go to trial just yet in a burglary and kidnapping case.

Dale E. McCormick, 32, told a judge on Monday he needs more time to prepare for trial. He plans to defend himself in court on charges he broke into the Lawrence home of a woman who claims he has been stalking her.

“There’s a lot of stuff to do, and this is a very serious case. My life is on the line,” McCormick told Judge Michael Malone during a hearing in Douglas County District Court.

The trial had been scheduled to start Nov. 17, but there have been a series of complications.

Malone reluctantly agreed to reschedule the trial for Jan. 5.

“This is not something I want to do, but I feel like I’m forced to under the circumstances,” Malone said.
