A KU Victory

To the editor:

Congratulations to the entire Lawrence community for the decisive victory over Manhattan Habitat for Humanity in the first can drive competition! Lawrence Habitat for Humanity and the University of Kansas romped Manhattan Habitat for Humanity and Kansas State University, 5,658 pounds of aluminum cans to 2,164 pounds. At 33 cans to a pound, Lawrence Habitat for Humanity kept 186,714 cans out of area landfills and raised almost $1,500! Thanks to all of our regular donors and volunteers as well as the outpouring of support from the community that led to our victory.

Anyone interested in donating cans to our continuing can drive may leave them at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 15th and Iowa streets, the Lawrence Habitat for Humanity office, 412 E. Ninth St., or at various bins around the city.

Brian Tongier,
