Chilly night expected for football fans

If you’re headed out to one of tonight’s area high school football games, you’d better bundle up.

“It’s going to be pretty chilly,” said Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist.

When Lawrence High meets Olathe North at 7:30 p.m. at Haskell Stadium, the temperature will be in the upper 30s, Janssen said. (Free State meets Olathe East at 7 p.m. at the Olathe District Activities Center.)

By the end of the games, temperatures will be about 34 degrees, with partly cloudy skies and winds out of the east, he said.

“They’ll be under 10 mph, so windchill won’t be much of a factor,” he said.

Overnight, clouds will steadily increase. Saturday’s morning low will be 27.

“There’ll be more clouds than sunshine on Saturday,” Janssen said. “I’m thinking there will be a 20 percent chance of showers on Saturday afternoon.”

But Janssen isn’t too concerned about rain for the Kansas University-Nebraska football game, which begins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at KU’s Memorial Stadium.

“I really think the KU game tomorrow will be dry. I would venture to say there could be some showers in the area any time after 4 o’clock in the afternoon,” he said.

Clouds will decrease Saturday night, with southeast winds under 10 mph and the low falling to 33.

“The weather will be dry with sunshine on Sunday,” he said. He’s expecting Sunday’s high to be 53.
