Three killed in crash

Fredonia — An Arkansas woman and two Colorado residents were killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 400 near Fredonia in southeast Kansas.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the accident occurred about 11 a.m. when a truck driven by Rebekah J. Lehman, 19, of Benton, Ark., was east-bound and crossed the highway’s center line. Lehman’s vehicle then struck a truck driven by David D. Hall, 39, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Killed in the accident were Lehman and two passengers in Hall’s vehicle, his wife, Billie R. Hall, 35, and Dorothea H. Dodson, 82, both of Colorado Springs.

Also riding in Hall’s car and injured in the accident were Kimberly Hall, 12, and Kaitlin Hall, 6, also of Colorado Springs. The patrol could not immediately confirm the nature of the family relation between the children and David and Billie Hall.

Husband charged with aggravated assault

A 40-year-old Lawrence man has been charged with aggravated assault after a domestic dispute Sunday.

Sgt. Mike Pattrick of the Lawrence Police Department said Keo Vannavongsa pointed a handgun at his 36-year-old wife and a 30-year-old acquaintance, and “threatened violence.”

Vannavongsa was arrested at his house in the 1600 block of East 21st Terrace and booked into the Douglas County Jail. Pattrick said police recovered a gun.

Courts could reduce child support payments

Topeka — The Kansas Supreme Court has approved child support guidelines that include an effort to reduce child support payments from certain parents if they have the child more than the standard amount of time.

The guidelines, which will take effect Jan. 1, are used to establish and modify the amount of child support ordered by Kansas judges.

One of the key changes would allow for a “parenting time adjustment.” It gives parents who have the child a significant amount of the time, but do not have shared custody, to petition for a reduction in their child support payments.

Questions about the guidelines can be directed to the Office of Judicial Administration at (785) 296-2256 or by e-mailing KansasCSG @kscourts.org. The guidelines are on the Kansas Judicial Branch Web site at www.kscourts.org.
