Tax fiasco
To the editor:
When are we going to get smart? Once again, election time is coming upon us, and the great minds in Washington pull out the old tried and true tax cuts. But at what cost? Wow, $100 back. But don’t worry, there will be new city and state taxes. Surely this will cost us more than $100.
For every dollar we get back, there is a trickle-down effect. The state government gets less money than it had budgeted for. Consequently services at the state level have to be cut. This means they cut services for the counties, and the counties cut services for the cities. Teachers are being fired due to cutbacks to the school system. Services for the elderly, poor and others will be cut drastically or eliminated.
We are also fighting a war on terrorism. But how are we paying for that? What about the huge burden placed on our cities and counties when there is an upgrade to the terror alert? Where is the money going to come from? What the government idiots are doing right now, is to mortgage the future so they can be re-elected. They don’t care about the United States; they don’t care about the people that voted them in. Our leaders act like they are children with a credit card.
But, at some point, the bank wants its money, and at a million dollars a day in interest alone, let’s say, the hole gets deeper and deeper until we really get hurt. I think it’s time to get rid of the idiots that voted for this tax break before they break us into the dumper.
