Offices, banks to observe holiday

All local, state and federal government offices and public services will be closed Monday for Memorial Day in Lawrence and nearby cities and counties.

Courts and banks also will be closed.

No Lawrence yard-waste pickups are scheduled Monday. Residents are asked to put yard waste out with their normal weekly trash pickup. No other changes are planned in sanitation route schedules.

The Lawrence Transit System will be closed Monday, and fixed route and paratransit buses will not run. Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not run.

Meals on Wheels will deliver. Douglas County Senior Services’ Senior Meals Program will not be in operation.

All city recreation centers will be closed. The Lawrence Public Library also will be closed today and Monday.

Kansas University will be closed.

Liquor stores will be closed.

The U.S. Postal Service will make only special deliveries. United Parcel Service will not deliver.

The Journal-World circulation office will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The paper will be published and delivered as usual. USA Today will not be published.

Parking in downtown Lawrence will be free.

The Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will observe the following schedule: 5:30 a.m., lap swimming; 1 p.m.-8:30 p.m., water slide and diving area; 1 p.m.-8:45 p.m., zero depth and children’s area. The Lawrence Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., will be open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
