Column lauded

To the editor:

Bravo to former law dean Mike Hoeflich for sharply and rightfully criticizing the state senator from Wichita who used foul methods to pursue professor Dennis Dailey and his class work on human sexuality. From this distance, it strikes me that the state senator thought she could make a name for herself among the sex-hating conservatives who have a national constituency in Bill O’Reilly, a noted hit artist who specializes in slandering people whose ideas he does not agree with.

Probably the state senator has succeeded, for the country is populated by loud-mouthed populists who will eat up her words. In the process, the state senator has exposed her hateful and contemptuous disregard for fair play and truth. If you are going to attack someone, you should at least know what you are attacking. Still, bravo to the dean for rebuking a state senator who probably should enroll in KU’s excellent law school, or re-enroll and catch up on the meanings of truth and due process.
