Don’t go it alone

To the editor:

The Bush administration has embraced international legal nihilism to become just a naysayer to any constructive treaty or convention to promote world peace, health, human relations or security. In quick succession, the Bush administration has repudiated:

1. The Kyoto Protocol on global warming;

2. The international criminal court;

3. The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty;

4. An international convention to regulate the trade in small arms;

5. A verification protocol for the Biological Weapons Convention;

6. An international convention to regulate and reduce smoking;

7. The World Conference Against Racism, and;

8. The Anti-ballistic Missile Systems Treaty.

Our new “go it alone,” self-centered nationalism can only result in disaster.
