Polarized policy

To the editor:

Bush doesn’t get it. Congress doesn’t get it. The American public doesn’t get it, and seems not to know or care about it.

The United States has been providing billions of dollars in aid to Israel for years. Yet the Israeli government continues expanding settlements into Palestinian territory, contrary to the so-called “road map” plan toward reconciliation. It would seem highly appropriate for the United States to cut off aid until Israel ceases this activity.

Our one-sided support of Israel continues to elicit even greater anti-American rage in the Near East, the latest example being the attack in Saudi Arabia. All I’m advocating is a more even-handed attitude by the United States toward the Palestinians and Israel, without which there will never be peace.

The frustrating aspect is how a single individual can effectively be listened to by our representatives in Congress, so badly polarized by party ideology.
