Lisher ponders move to Texas

When Olathe North High football coach Gene Wier announced he was leaving the Sunflower League school for Richland (Texas) High, rumors started swirling that he was taking two league coaches with him.

He has one in Olathe South head coach Mark Littrell, who will be the offensive coordinator.

That leaves Free State High’s Bob Lisher.

Lisher confirmed Sunday night he visited Richland last week. The only head football coach in the history of 6-year-old FSHS, Lisher will mull the school’s offer to be Wier’s defensive coordinator.

Lisher and his wife, Diana, will travel to Texas later this week for another visit to the campus.

FSHS athletic director Steve Grant said Lisher was impressed by Richland’s facilities and Texas’ legendary high school football atmosphere.

“He came back and was telling us how impressive it was down there,” Grant said.

Lisher has a 26-31 record in six years at FSHS and previously was head coach at Blue Valley North, as well as an assistant coach at Lawrence High.
