University sets exam

Kansas University has announced the following final examination:

Todd Henshaw, School of Business, “Cultural Influences on Leader Development: A Case Study of Cadet Basic Training at West Point,” 3 p.m. Monday, 124 Summerfield Hall.

Orienteering event uses Jayhawks sculptures

An urban orienteering, scavenger hunt event May 31 will send participants on a search for Jayhawks on Parade.

Participants will be asked to look for the Jayhawk sculptures and answer questions about each Jayhawk during a three-hour period.

Check-in time will be 7 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. at Buford M. Watson Jr. Park, Seventh and Kentucky streets. The hunt begins at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $6.

Free State to compete in High Q championship

Free State High School will face Shawnee Heights High School of Topeka in the High Q academic championship competition. The show airs at 7 a.m. Sunday on Sunflower Broadband Channel 13 and again at 10 p.m. Sunday on Channel 11.

Free State beat Thomas More-Prep-Marian, Hays; St. Thomas Aquinas, Overland Park, and Kapaun Mount Carmel, Wichita, to advance to the championship. The contest, sponsored by WIBW TV-13, Topeka, and Washburn University, broadcasts students answering questions on topics in literature, art, history, math and science.

Free State team members are Alan Sheu, junior; Austin Rivera, sophomore; Ivan Sheu, junior; Nathan Markham, senior, and Matt Schwabauer, senior. Oather Strawderman coaches the team.

Native Kansas group seeks nominations

The Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas organization invites nominations for Kansan of the Year and Distinguished Kansan. Awards will be presented Jan. 23, 2004, at the organization’s annual banquet.

Kansan of the Year is for a person born in Kansas who has contributed an outstanding career or public service. Distinguished Kansan is for someone who has made achievements within or related to the state, but was not born in Kansas.

To nominate a candidate, send a summary of the nominee’s career and achievements to Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas, P.O. Box 4345, Topeka 66604, by Thursday.
