A laughingstock

To the editor:

A few years ago, the state of Kansas managed to totally humiliate itself both nationally and worldwide when the Republican, Christian conservatives attempted to replace science with creationism in the Kansas education curriculum. This action unfortunately stereotyped Kansans as backward and not real bright and provided a new characterization of Kansas education. Not our finest hour.

Now, another effort to make us the laughingstock everywhere is being made by Kansas Sen. Susan Wagle, R-Wichita, as she attempts to insert her personal extreme conservative biases and opinions into the Kansas University class on human sexuality taught by Dennis Dailey! Once again the resulting uproar makes Kansans look like idiots. Luckily, she made her views known nationally on a cable TV show no one really watches.

What part of our Constitution’s separation of church and state don’t you folk understand? Duh!

As universities are designed to educate, this situation might present an enlightened alternative for conservative Christians who wish to share their personal views and experience on human sexuality. Petition KU with your own version of a sex class to offer to those offended by reality. Conceivably, you might get the lesson plans and syllabus from the bastion of political correctness of conservative values and education, Bob Jones University, or the Heritage Foundation.

Now that Jim Bakker is out of jail, he could be your instructor. If not, perhaps Jimmy Swaggart is available.
