Abatement issue

We recently revised our tax abatement policy to provide that tax abatement will be given even if it has no effect on a company’s decision to locate, expand or stay in Lawrence (i.e., we will spend money even if we do not need to do so). With that new policy, we recently granted 55 percent tax abatement (estimated cost of $47,600 per job) to Prosoco for eight jobs with compensation ranging between $10 and $15 per hour.
