A better way

To the editor:

Barbara Watkins’ letter (“The wrong time,” March 22) confirmed for me that there are probably many others in this community who, while supportive of education, are troubled by the bond issue before us. The current board of education, thinking that it acts in the best interest of all, has set in motion a program that will hurt older neighborhoods and, ultimately, the entire city. It’s time to elect board members who consider the “big picture” and to put a bond issue before voters that will address needs, such as a new South Junior High, without penalizing portions of the community.

On April 1, please vote no on this bond issue. On April 2, encourage your new school board to bring a better, more appropriate and more affordable bond issue to voters at the next opportunity.

Scott Bailey,
