Ignored majority
To the editor:
Issues having a profound effect on families, neighborhood quality of life, schools, property values and small businesses are too frequently being decided by both the City Commission and Lawrence school board in a matter seemingly not in the interest of the majority of those most affected by the decisions.
The “majority” may be either silent, or vocal, but can be ignored in either case. A 3-2 vote can favor a minority interest, resulting in adverse effects on a majority of Lawrence residents.
Is there a general disregard for residents (read taxpayers/voters) east of Iowa Street?
Perhaps it is time for referendums regarding issues that benefit few at the expense of many.

Lawrence
