Quote hoax
To the editor:
A letter was submitted recently with a quote from Julius Caesar (Public Forum, Friday). The quote — which begins “Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor … ” — has been discounted by historians. Barbara Streisand quoted it and attributed it to Shakespeare, but it never appears in any of the works of Julius Caesar. The quote, as research has shown, is an Internet hoax with no basis in the real world.
