Shakespeare expert last in lecture series

A Kansas University expert on William Shakespeare will speak April 3 for the Humanities Lecture Series at the Hall Center for the Humanities.

David Bergeron will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Spencer Museum of Art. The event is open to the public.

Bergeron’s talk will be “Shakespeare in the Closet,” and he will discuss the literal and metaphorical closets in houses, theaters, the imagination and sexual desire in Shakespeare’s time. He will focus on how characters in “Hamlet” construct private space in their world.

Bergeron is the final speaker in the 2002-2003 Humanities Lecture Series.

Author, musician plans appearances in city

Musician and writer Charlie Peacock will be in Lawrence this month to speak about art and faith in a series of events sponsored by the Aletheia Forum.

Peacock is a record producer, jazz pianist and songwriter and the author of “At The Crossroads.”

His schedule:

  • Book signing at 8 p.m. March 28 at Signs of Life Books, 722 Mass.
  • Workshop on worship, 9 a.m. to noon March 29 at Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt. Registration required.
  • Talk on the spirituality of jazz legend John Coltrane at 8 p.m. March 29 at Borders Books, Music & Cafe, Seventh and New Hampshire streets.
  • Appearance at 11 a.m. March 30 at Heartland Community Church.

In addition, Peacock’s wife, author Andi Ashworth-Peacock, will sign books and speak about her book, “Real Love for Real Life: The Art and Work of Caring,” at 10:30 a.m. March 29 at Signs of Life Books.
