Closing schools

To the editor:

The pro-bond propaganda sent home with the kids tells the story the school board wants to put out. In it, there is very little mention of school closings, but the truth about the closing of Centennial is finally out: They think all that land is wasted on little kids. They admit they want it for the high school.

They say a modern high school needs at least 50 acres. Now, what for? This can’t be geometry class. They don’t even need it for physical education classes. You got it: team sports! Entertainment for the parents.

Meanwhile, the Centennial Elementary children are sent to the renovated new Cordley — on a minuscule lot. By the time they expand the buildings, there’s not much space left to play in. But it’s not necessary. The space is wasted on children. You can’t draw a big crowd for play time.

I hope my sarcasm is not misunderstood. I oppose these closings, and the bond issue.
