Casino gambling topic of TV show

Lawmakers’ renewed interest in expanding casino gambling in Kansas will be the subject of this week’s edition of public television’s “On The Record,” airing at 12:30 p.m. Sunday on KTWU Channel 11.

Guests include state Sen. Chris Steineger, D-Kansas City, Glenn Thompson, executive director of the antigambling organization Stand Up For Kansas, and a representative from the Wichita Greyhound Park.

KU alumni honored for volunteer efforts

Two Kansas University alumni living in Atchison will receive the Mildred Clodfelter Alumni Award for their volunteer efforts.

The award, from the KU Alumni Association, will be presented during a 6:30 p.m. Kansas Honors Program dinner Monday at the Atchison Heritage Conference Center.

Bill and Donna (Rogers) Roe will be honored for their help with the honors program, which recognizes high school students in the top 10 percent of their class.

Bill Roe, who graduated from KU with a bachelor’s degree in 1967 and a master’s degree in 1978, is a teacher in the St. Joseph school district. Donna Roe, who received a master’s degree from KU in 1978, teaches math at Benton High School in St. Joseph.

The award is named for Clodfelter, who worked 47 years at KU.

Conference offers facts

on behavior disorders

Behavior disorders in people of all ages will be the topic of a conference Saturday at Kansas University.

“Applied Behavior Analysis across the Life Span,” a conference organized by the Kansas Association for Behavior Analysts, will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the Dole Human Development Center at KU. Topics will include autism and sign language training.

The keynote speaker will be Patricia M. Meinhold, licensed clinical psychologist with Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center. She will discuss how behavioral treatment can benefit children with autism.
