KU names director finalists

Two Kansas University administrators are among the four finalists seeking to become KU’s next director of admissions and scholarships.

Lisa Pinamonti, who has been acting director of the office since 2002, and Paul Buskirk, associate athletics director for student support, are among the finalists announced Tuesday by KU.

The other two are Roger Bilow, director of admissions at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, and Patrick O’Neill, associate admissions director at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Pinamonti will give the first public presentation as part of her official interview at 2 p.m. Monday at the KU Visitor Center auditorium.

Bilow will interview March 27 and 28, Buskirk will interview April 2 and 3, and Patrick O’Neill will interview April 17 and 18. Times for their public presentations have not been set.

The admissions and scholarships office has been without a permanent director since April 2002, when Alan Cerveny left to become the top admissions officer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

This is the second search process for the job. KU officials thought they had hired Larry Kruse, director of high school and college relations at Oklahoma State University, last August. But Kruse accepted a promotion at OSU instead and declined KU’s offer.

The new round of finalists:

l Pinamonti, who came to KU in 1999 as assistant director of on-campus programming and has been associate director of recruitment since 2000. She also has worked at Wichita State University and Pittsburg State University.

l Buskirk, who has been in his position in the athletics department since 1989. He previously was academic counselor and administrative assistant for the football program and a graduate assistant to the vice chancellor for academic affairs at KU.

l Bilow, who has been admissions director at Stephen F. Austin State University since 1995. He previously was associate director of admissions at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 1982 to 1995, and was a counselor and administrator with the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation in San Antonio from 1974 to 1982.

l O’Neill has been associate director of admissions at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 2000. He was director of international admissions at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte from 1997 to 2000 and was an admissions counselor at the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 1988 to 1997.
