Foreign relations expert scheduled to speak at KU

An expert on U.S.-East Asian relations will discuss “Japanese Imperialism in the Age of Globalization” Tuesday at Kansas University.

Akira Iriye, historian at Harvard University, will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Spencer Museum of Art auditorium. The speech, which is free and open to the public, is the second annual Grant Goodman Distinguished Lecture in Japanese Studies.

Iriye has written 13 books and received numerous international prizes and fellowships during his career.

He also will participate in a discussion at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Hall Center for the Humanities Conference Room on “The Cultural Foundations of Peace.” The discussion is part of the Hall Center’s War, Peace and Diplomacy Seminar.
