Not a fluke

To the editor:

In your editorial on the primary results (“Election field,” J-W, Feb. 27) you note that the turnout was larger than other recent primaries. However, then you imply that this turnout was from a “core constituency” and might be a “narrow spectrum of voters.”

Please note that the candidates that support business and neighborhoods, who led the primary vote, won in almost every precinct. This was not a fluke with high east or west voting. This was strong support from the new northwest area, from the established residential areas of the south and the older neighborhoods east of Iowa Street. It looks like the whole community believes in better balancing of growth and community character.

The victors of this primary had yard signs throughout town. The candidates who finished last focused their signs on large commercial and potential commercial properties. If yard signs are any indication of the spectrum of support, the voters recognized which candidates will truly represent middle ground.
