School closures

To the editor:

I am voting “no” on the school bond issue for several reasons. First among them is the obscene amount of money that DLR (Drain Lawrence Resources?) stands to gain if the bond issue passes. Secondly, when new schools are built in Lawrence, entire neighborhoods develop around them. So it is logical to assume that when schools close in Lawrence, entire neighborhoods would decline.

Wakarusa Valley is our neighborhood school, so I have nothing personally at stake other than I believe inner-city school closures are not good for Lawrence families. It seems that the voters have a hard time getting this across to our school board. Let’s send them another message on April 1. Maybe they will get it this time.

Kevin Maxon,
