Peck a fall guy

To the editor:

I truly doubt that Mike Peck was the only officer guilty of providing false testimony in court. He has been set up as a fall guy for the entire system of undercover drug work, which is shrouded in lies and deception and needs to be eliminated. The laws regarding what is legal and what is not in undercover work are far too ambiguous to be enforced in a fair and consistent manner.

I find it odd that people get all worked up that their tax dollars are going to feed hungry children and provide state insurance but seem to have no problem with their tax dollars buying crack.

The war on drugs is an antiquated myth that thrives on fear and ignorance perpetuated by too few people thinking for themselves.

The war on drugs devastates more lives than it saves by incarcerating nonviolent offenders. It sucks away tax money that could be better spent on prevention and treatment, and has been shown to blatantly discriminate toward those on the lower end of the economic spectrum.

Drugs have always been around, and will continue to be around. No war, as much as we seem to like that word, is going to change that.

The social ill that takes the most American lives is heart disease. So if the war on drugs is truly in the best interest of American lives, shouldn’t we instead have a war on cheeseburgers and sedentary living?
