Doctor says victim had 18 gunshot wounds

Quincy M. Sanders died March 14 of “multiple gunshot wounds” — 18 to be exact, though some of them were grazes.

The doctor who performed Sanders’ autopsy, Donald V. Pojman, took the witness stand Thursday in Douglas County District Court and described each of the wounds. He said he thought Sanders, 21, was first shot in the head at close range — what Pojman characterized as a fatal wound — then shot many more times as he collapsed and lay on his right side.

Sanders had gunshot wounds to his head, neck, chest, abdomen and thighs.

Thursday was the fourth day of a preliminary hearing for Corey T. Robinson, 23, Topeka, and Tremain V. Scott, 21, Overland Park, the men accused of killing Sanders at a duplex in the 2600 block of Ridge Court.

The hearing, which will determine whether the accused will be tried for the crime, continues today.
