Rainy afternoon expected for Lawrence

The Lawrence area will continue to be in a severe thunderstorm watch through 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

“By 6 o’clock, we’re going to see the rain pretty much over with and that should be it for the rest of the night,” said Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist.

By 4:15 p.m., the 6News offices as Seventh and New Hampshire streets in downtown Lawrence had recorded 0.17 of an inch of rain for the afternoon.

Janssen said that the overnight low will drop to 61, with skies staying mostly cloudy.

Thursday’s skies will be mostly sunny early, becoming partly cloudy, with a high of 81.

“There will be a noticeable change tomorrow,” Janssen said. “The humidity has been running 60 to 70 percent. But tomorrow, we’re going to look at about 40 percent.”

Thursday night’s skies will be mostly clear, with the low dropping to 57.

Friday’s skies will be partly cloudy, with the high reaching 87.
