Double standard

To the editor:

A double standard in the Kansas Legislature? At first, I never believed it could be true, but after reading the article in Wednesday’s edition, I was dumbfounded. How could a state senator be held to the same standards as you or I? Senators are superhuman — men and women beyond comprehension, never having to adhere to those pesky “laws” that complicate our plain, pathetic, trivial lives.

Wow, not only was Ed’s blood-alcohol content three times the legal limit, but this was his first offense. Surely he has NEVER driven drunk before, right? Good Sen. Pugh just had a tiny smidge too much to drink and was just unlucky when he somehow backed into a girl’s car at a stop light? What? He was stopped and then put his car in reverse?

What is going on? I fully acknowledge that we common folk are here on this earth to shut up and gladly pay taxes, but if it’s not some cop beating his wife, then it’s a cop who plants evidence. And if it’s not a cop planting evidence then it’s a senator getting away with a “we at the DMV don’t care what you do, good senator” DUI.
