Owens enters plea agreement in shooting death case

A Topeka man charged with aiding two suspects in the murder of a Lawrence man reached a plea agreement with Douglas County prosecutors Thursday.

Randy Owens, 27, entered a plea of no contest Thursday morning to charges of aiding a felon and fleeing to elude officers.

Owens was arrested in March at Kansas City International Airport shortly after the shooting death of Quincy Sanders, 22, Lawrence.

Sanders was gunned down in the early morning hours of March 14 outside a duplex at 26th Street and Ridge Court.

The two suspects facing second-degree murder charges in the case, Tremain Scott, 21, and Corey Robinson, 22, are both scheduled for preliminary hearings Friday morning in Douglas County District Court.

The district attorney’s office would not comment on whether the plea agreement was accepted in exchange for Owens’ testimony against the two other suspects.

Owens’ sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 1.
