Thoughtful stand
To the editor:
Teacher Ken Phipps wrote that he was upset about lack of respect for the flag. The United States used to be a free country. Since recent events have caused the present administration in D.C. to set up a democratic dictatorship, we now mix nationalistic and religious propaganda to enforce uniformity.
Nazi Germany was 90 percent Catholic. The Germans wanted uniformity, so nationalism (flag salute), love of the motherland, and one religion were promoted by the government.
Mr. Phipps should be happy that a few of the students are thinking rather than mindlessly following the herd instinct.
