Two injured in crash

Two people were taken by ambulance Tuesday to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a truck was knocked onto its side in a collision at Clinton Parkway and Lawrence Avenue.

Lawrence Police identified the victims as John R. Rathbun Sr., 48, and John R. Rathbun Jr., 17, both of Lawrence. They were treated and released.

“I’ve got two bags of ice on my shoulders and one on my back,” John Sr. said later from his home.

The accident occurred about 1 p.m. when a 1990 Ford pickup truck driven by the younger Rathbun was westbound on Clinton when it attempted to turn left onto Lawrence Avenue, police said.

The truck was struck by an eastbound 2000 Chevrolet Suburban, pictured above after the accident, driven by Lynn N. Sestak, 38, Shawnee, police said. She was not hurt.

John Rathbun Jr. was issued a citation by police for failing to yield to traffic while turning.

Police: Prosecutors mull charges in Peeping Tom incident

A woman taking a shower at Clinton Lake State Park told police she saw a man peering at her through a crack in the shower stall during Memorial Day weekend.

The incident allegedly happened shortly after 7 p.m. May 27 at the shower for Walnut and Hickory campgrounds.

The 26-year-old Leawood woman said she screamed at the man and that her husband saw him run off, get into a vehicle and drive away.

Deputies stopped the man’s vehicle on the outskirts of the park, and the woman’s husband identified the man as the same person he’d seen leaving the shower, according to the report.

The man was not arrested but authorities forwarded a report to Dist. Atty. Christine Kenney’s office for potential charges, said Lt. Kathy Tate, a Sheriff’s spokeswoman.

Courts: 28-year-old charged with molesting 3 children

A 28-year-old Lawrence man made a formal court appearance Tuesday on charges that he raped a 2-year-old and molested two other children, ages 4 and 6.

Douglas County Assistant Dist. Atty. Brad Burke said he couldn’t say what, if any, relationship existed between the suspect and the victims. But as a condition of his bond, the man has been ordered not to go to the address listed on jail records as his home.

He appeared Tuesday by videoconference from the Douglas County Jail before Douglas County Judge Pro Tem Peggy Kittel, who ordered that bond remain at $100,000.

He’s charged with one count of rape, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and three counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
