South Dakota student wins Campanile Award
Senior class officers at Kansas University have announced McLean Thompson, Pierre, S.D., as recipient of the 2003 Campanile Award.
Thompson served as the assistant treasurer of the Student Senate and was involved with the Commission on the Status of Women, Hawk Nights, Association of University Residence Halls, Center for Community Outreach and Alternative Breaks. She also volunteered in after-school activities at a Lawrence elementary school.
Thompson graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and communication studies.
The award was established by the KU Class of 2000 to recognize a graduating senior who has displayed remarkable leadership, strength of character and respect for the university. The award recipient is chosen by KU’s Board of Class Officers based on a short essay and an interview.
Praeger to speak with medical group
Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, a Lawrence resident, will speak at noon today during a meeting of the Lawrence Medical Managers group.
The meeting will be in the auditorium at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine.
