Preschool issue

To the editor:

I don’t see why the Lawrence school district is expected to pay for preschools. Some churches have preschools, as does Kansas University and, I believe, the Ballard Center, Small World and the Arts Center. These schools are either free or on a sliding scale according to the parents’ income.

There are businesses of paid preschools too in the yellow pages of the phone book. So, why are the school board members arguing over preschools?

Don’t parents feel any responsibility to bring up their little ones anymore? They could arrange play dates with some of their friends who have children the same age, for socialization. They could make it a teaching co-op and organize among themselves. Parents could also take little ones to the library to check out books and listen to stories. They could take them on field trips to the KU museums.
