Targeting taxes

To the editor:

I agree with Matt Montgomery. His tax dollars shouldn’t go toward educating my seven children just because I choose to be poor. My children need to wait to go to school until I can afford to buy a house and then pay taxes on that house.

But this is just the beginning of the injustice that Matt Montgomery lives with every day. His taxes pay for the fire department when he’s not even burning down his house. He has to pay for prisons when he’s not the one being arrested. His tax dollars have gone for paving roads he’ll never use and library books he may never read. And if you can imagine, he has to help pay for the dog catcher when he’s not even a dog.

Of course, even in my poverty I still have to pay some taxes. My taxes go toward bombing people I’ll never get to know. And my tax money pays companies like Halliburton to take Iraqi oil and make Dick Cheney richer.
