Legal costs

To the editor:

I would like to remind the taxpaying consumers in Lawrence that when Wal-Mart sues the city, that the company essentially is suing every taxpayer in Lawrence.

Wal-Mart’s lawsuit costs each of us money. And even if the company fails in its lawsuit, we still will have incurred the cost of defending ourselves.

Every dollar spent at Wal-Mart means more money flowing into the company’s coffers to wage legal battles against cities such as Lawrence and, therefore, against taxpaying citizens such as you and me.

So attention Wal-Mart shoppers: You are paying both to be sued and to defend yourselves.
