Faith and healing
To the editor:
I would like to publicly commend and thank Dr. Steven Segebrecht for acknowledging the presence, importance and power of faith beliefs of patients, not only in their everyday lives, but also in dealing with medical situations.
Recently, Dr. Segebrecht made a statement about faith beliefs and practices such as praying while concluding an appointment with our toddler son, who is deaf in one ear. Additionally, he offered, if we were interested, of course, to provide an opportunity to lead and participate in silent prayer for our son before we left. This request left such an impact on me that I reached over and immediately hugged him. I was so pleased and excited to see a physician recognized that faith beliefs were a significant portion of many people’s lives and that he actively encourages incorporating faith into the practice of medicine.
Thank you, Dr. Segebrecht, and thank God for you. You are an inspiration to me and hopefully for other physicians as well. Lawrence is blessed to have you in practice here.
Monica Stark,
Lawrence
